Retail  Schematic Design

This new pen shop in downtown Minneapolis is the first of its kind: a store devoted entirely to designer fountain pens. As much a museum as it is a retail space, our design is an investigation into the framing and illumination of these small, exquisitely detailed items: glowing boxes with single pens inside float behind a wall of blue glass to turn the entire composition into an icon; single windows provide stage sets for theatrically lit pen still-lifes; still other pens float on planes of glowing white. Rich materials, simply treated, give the space a sense of repose.
